Opinion reads: The problem is not technology, but our relation to it. We forget that machines lack our blessing and curse: consciousness, and the freedom this gives. They cannot invent and judge values. They cannot be cheered or disgusted, inspired or deflated. They do not fight to shape and reshape themselves within the limits of history, family, flesh. This is our job. We have to step back from the ease and beauty of each device, and consider its contribution to liberty. Does it offer strength, clarity and passion, or does it leave us weak, dimwitted and drained?
