The Darwiniana takes on the one-sidedness of Darwinism


Landon writes: Lamarck understood the point, which Darwin lost, which is that some ‘drive toward complexity’ (the phrase causes its own problems) is matched with what happens otherwise: adaptation and natural selection. That his evolutionary process impinges on the metaphysical doesn’t change the fact that two levels are needed in evolutionary explanation. Darwinism reduces everything to one level.
